Concept

We want to create a photo shoot, in an outdoor setting; we want it to look very urban and aged. Our model will be female. She will look very feminine and innocent with long hair allowing us to style it up. We have been inspired by Alexander McQueen’s autumn/winter collection, as the models had really extravagant high hair, this fits well with our concept of Highs and Heights. Our Historical theme is going to be Edwardian, to achieve this in the shoot we will dress our model in a high necked lace top with a floral skirt, accessorised with lace tights. The makeup will be plain and natural; we want the skin to be pale and porcelain looking, with a deep crushed cherry shade on the lips. The colour palette for our shoot will be very neutral taken from the models styling through to our rich green and sky blue surroundings.

We started looking at sky scrapers, and from this we looked at the original King Kong film which was released in the 1930's. From researching further into this era we noticed certain aspects of fashion that became really inspiring to us. We liked the 30's era because of the feminie clothes and how they complimented the female figure. This then lead us to look into the edwardian era which was 1900s, so we took our history research even further. We found we became more inspired and influenced by the edwardian era than the 1930s, due to the use of delicate lace and high volume hair styles, which we found fitted into our height concept better, research and imagery we had already found. So we decied to go for the edwardian era for our history part of the concept.

We want to keep our photo shoot very natural looking; we are having the photo shoot outdoors, in the woodlands. We want to contrast our model with the Highs and Heights of our surroundings. We will also experiment with the shoot being in front of an old brick wall to bring the Edwardian element in. The shoot will take place on a sunny day, so we can get the perfect dewy lighting for our vogue cover.

Shop Display/ Interior Ideas

Le Chien Et Moi – Derby Road, Nottingham

We were inspired by this shop and its diverse mix of unusual and beautiful things, old and new, set in a inspiring and nostalgic environment….

Old shop cabinets adorn the walls and worn carpenters workbenches are scattered with hard to find objects. Wares include an ever changing collection of covetable antique, vintage and recycled pieces for the home and garden, complemented by new products with traditional roots: hand built Italian bicycles, French linens and scents, mouth blown glassware, letterpress stationery, handmade ceramics, jewellery from Japan and New York and an intriguing selection of uncommon books.

We feel the shop displays and interior settings of this shop fit with our concept well and create the antique, nostalgic story telling aspect of our concept.

We thought that this shop window would fit in with our concept, as it is vintage, and some of the clothes look edwardian.

Window Display

Like the way the clothes are pinned up high on a washing line very simple but effective

Hair and Make-Up

We had a hair and make-up trainee to do the hair and make-up on our model, it worked really well with her she was able to understand our concept and what we wanted to achieve.
My photos haven't come out as well as the Proffesionals.

Shoes

We chose to use these boots as they fit well with our Edwardian theme. Our model will be wearing a high waisted skirt so short ankle boots weren't going to make her legs look short.

Accessory

We considered as a group this scarf as an accessory but as we were shooting on a warm sunny day, we thought it wouldn't fit with our scenery.

Trying on Outfits

This was a great lace dress but again it was too harsh with lace tights or leggings. It was also not as feminine as we wanted it to be as it doesn't accentuate her waist.

As a group we liked this top but we wasn't sure that the black leggings would fit well with our theme.
The top didn't work for our image we were going for, the waist is unable to be seen.
As a group we tried some outfits on our model. We wanted to consider the Edwardian theme still so ruffles and lace were essential.

This bottom image was our favourite outfit, so it was bought through to the photo-shoot.

Ideas for different catwalk locations, inside/outside in old historic gardens. Water features, steps and arches.

Props

I thought this chair would be great to bring into the shoot, I thought it really looked like something that could be in Alice in Wonderland.

We could also create a lot of height with this chair and get some good camera angles to create some interesting perceptions of height.

Photo-shoot Set

The photos above are just a few I have taken of the setting we are going to use for our shoot. The long over grown weeds really add a feature to the set ad the old brick walls eroding away add an historical look.

Eye Make-up

I came across this image whilst researching different styles of make-up.
I think this could be a really strong style to sue in our shoot, tkaing the colour away from the lips and replacing it on the eyes.

An outdoor shoot for the cover of Vogue, the use of pastels against the darker woodland really emphasizes the clothing.

Lipsticks

As a group we all really like the idea of using pale skins and contrasting with bright lipsticks.
This bottom image really reminds me of the lips from Alice in Wonderland.
We really want to make the lips really striking and to stand out in the photoshoot

A photoshoot for Vogue, this image is the look we are wanting to achieve with pastel colours in a garden set. The clothing and shoes in our shoot will take on the high fashion look that Vogue goes for.

This is slightly different to our original idea however i think the black works well and is a strong image that could feature in vogue, pale make up with a strong lip colour allows the pattern on the face to stand out without being to much.

Developing the idea of using the idea of lace in a modern way. This kind of effect could be done before the photo shoot as part of the accessories and stying or after in the photoshop manipulation.

This photography is by an artist called Dominique Davant. This is another really inovetive way of developing the lace idea.

Some interesting ways of using lace in the photoshoots or afterwards. Using the edwardian lace elelment in a more innovative way.

Inspired by works of a worldly known Japanese balloon artist Daisy (Rei Hosokai). She uses balloons to create absolutely amazing clothes, accessories and flowers.
Photographed by Tim Walker for British Vogue, February 2007.
I really love the big skirt in this photo. Although you cannot see the girls legs in this she still looks really tall and slender as the skirt starts at the waist which is the smallest part of her body, and the camera angle is shooting beneath her.

Natural Curls

Love the hair in this photo, the long natural wavy look, mixing with the light lace fabric top.
Very feminine, almost looking old fashioned with the shoot being so natural and the colours very dull.

Space

This is a really good photo playing with scale, with nothing around the model giving her so much space she doesn't know what to do with it. Covering her face as if she is scared in such a big open space.

Proportions

Legs on the female body are a very elegant and feminine feature, so the longer they are the better.
This is a really effective photo with the main feature being the leg, but playing with proportion with the large tree trunk making the leg look smaller.

Cropping out certain parts of the body can change the idea of the shoot, these two shoots I think make the girls look very tall, as if they were too tall to fit in the photo.

Experimenting with photo angles, giving the viewer a different approach on the human figure.
This is something we want to achieve in our photo-shoot, playing with proportions and what effects you can achieve on just cropping certain parts of the body out.
